Gouverneur Saint-Auban Rouge comes from the Les Faysses vineyard, whose deeper gravelly soils with a high proportion of limestone give Syrah a distinct structure while preserving its elegance. The winery compares the character of this terroir more to the northern Rhône than to the more powerful wines of its southern part.

The wine matures for twelve months in oak barrels. The result is a concentrated and balanced wine with delicate tannins and the potential for long development in the bottle. Gouverneur Saint-Auban is one of Domaine de la Citadelle's most significant wines.
