Clos des Chênes is historically the most important plot of Domaine Henri Delagrange. Its name refers to the oak trees that, according to traditional interpretation, once covered this part of the slope. Vines were planted here in 1939, and as early as 1947, René Delagrange bottled the entire harvest from this vineyard independently. For several generations, this wine has thus formed one of the main components of the family winery's identity.

Domaine Henri Delagrange owns 0.65 hectares in Clos des Chênes. The stony subsoil is made of Bathonian limestone with a significant iron content. The old vines give the wine concentration and depth, but the character remains typical for Volnay: a firm structure is accompanied by a fine texture and refined tannins. Clos des Chênes combines the significance of a prized Premier Cru with the exceptionally long continuity of a single family plot.
