Clos Baulet is the smallest Premier Cru in Morey-Saint-Denis – the entire climat has only 0.66 hectares. It lies on a gentle slope directly below the Grand Cru Clos des Lambrays, which gives it an exceptional position within the appellation.

According to Lignier, the stony, clayey, and well-drained soils give the wine a finer and more delicate character. Compared to the firmer Premier Crus of Morey-Saint-Denis, Clos Baulet thus shows a more subtle side of Pinot Noir from the winery's home village.
