Les Fontenys is located in the northern part of Gevrey-Chambertin, in the immediate vicinity of Grand Cru Ruchottes-Chambertin and Mazis-Chambertin. Domaine Joseph Roty cultivates an approximately half-hectare plot here, situated in a gentle depression. This area is warmer than the surrounding vineyards, but natural springs run beneath the surface, helping to maintain moisture even in dry vintages.

The proximity of Grand Cru and the unique combination of warmth with a natural water supply give Les Fontenys a special position in the winery's offerings. The wine has the depth and firm structure typical of Gevrey-Chambertin, while also retaining precision, freshness, and a long evolution in the cellar.
