Volnay comes from several parcels located on both the lower and upper slopes, including Les Buttes, Les Grands Champs, Les Famines, Les Lurets, and La Gigotte. Each contributes a different aspect of the appellation's character to the wine.

Deeper clay soils in the lower areas give the wine richness and a rounder structure, while stonier clay-limestone soils higher up the slope bring freshness and a finer structure. Vines of varying ages, from younger plantings to bushes approximately 75 years old, create a complete picture of Volnay in an elegant and approachable style.
